WORLD OF THOUGHT

sky, earth, human, animal, vine
everything acts upon everything else, shaping us – our stance
shaping the wine

"[...] but we must cultivate our garden."

So Voltaire's Candide offers an answer to all possible questions. Whether we live in the best of all possible worlds or on shifting ground, whether everything falls wonderfully into place or we necessarily realise our ideas out of chance. Life does not carry its truth in a state of being, but in a process. We must cultivate our garden. Tend what we have planted, in the world available to us. For beneath the surface of tended gardens, the consequences of the past year define the grounds of the year to come.

All things flow together.

Each and every one of our decisions influences an entire web of effects. Ideally we make them kindly, giving natural processes space and all the time in the world that we are able to shape, along the way, by simply always taking one step further than we thought we could, for "shortcuts make for long delays", as J.R.R. Tolkien has one of his hobbits say – in the spirit of steady evolution, in the polyphony of dialogue, between the lines of books and vines, on the construction sites of the diverse sociotopes, according to our respective place in the phases of transformation, and since 2026 within the worldwide space of thought of the biodynamic movement.

Life is change.

"Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed." Antoine Lavoisier's law of conservation of mass highlights the principle of infinite metamorphosis. Between fruit and spirit. From grapes, a feeling is made. We will never be finished with it. But we can place a bottle of wine on the table. Everything we have experienced is captured within it – at a particular time, in a particular place. And it lives on. So every glass is an invitation to have an experience. Light as a feather, the thought of a balance that must be made and remade, questioned and re-questioned, again and again.

LEITHABERG DAC

...the unbridled vitality of an animal pulsing with energy, free in the landscape yet at our side when called – this kind of taming, for the moment of encounter, through bearing alone, never by force... RIED WIESER, naked!

An east-facing slope inclined toward Lake Neusiedl, with deep, partly lime-free sandy, partly calcareous clay soil over slate and quartz, among almond, sour cherry and quince trees in the hills of Rust near Mörbisch am See. Outstanding like an island in the Paratethys Sea: the site. The wines: BLAUFRÄNKISCH. Precise reflections of a concentration on the essential. Close-knit. Structure-driven. Vibrating density. Characteristic is the freshness kick of the acidity even at full ripeness, we’ll say it again: structure, structure, structure, a muscular play and the springy elegance of finely gripping tannins, long finish, the Christmas spice unmistakably present in the spectrum of aromas from the grapes and the spontaneous fermentation, never overwhelmed by used oak. Unfiltered. Unfined. Without mask or disguise. Living wine.
